The USMNT has something else to cheer about this week. Future national prospect Cavan Sullivan looks set to sign for Guardiola’s Manchester City.
The so-called ‘most talented 14-year-old in the world’ made his professional debut last Sunday for Philadelphia Union’s second team. He notched a game-winning assist.
“They (Man City) believe that the quality this boy has at 14 is something that is not easy to find around the world. Not just around Europe or around the United States. They are exchanging all documents with Philadelphia Union to get it signed as soon as possible. Everything is verbally agreed and so we can say that Sullivan to Man City is a here we go and it will happen very soon,” Fabrizio Romano told Men In Blazers.
The teenager follows in the footsteps of other wonder kids who launched their careers at Man City, including Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, and Jadon Sancho. The midfielder’s technique has been likened to Man City ace Kevin de Bruyne’s, while Cavan is also said to be a speedster.
Philadelphia II boss Marlon LeBlanc says the youngster remains unfazed by the high expectations.
“Cavan is a fantastic young talent,” said LeBlanc.
“I like to tease him that I’ve never seen a kid get built up as much as I’ve seen Cavan. He’s so down to earth. All of this extra hype that goes on about him doesn’t get to his head, and I think that’s what is fantastic about him.
“It’s what also allows him to come into our environment and still be great and still be bold. In 2024, you’ll see him with us Philadelphia Union II a lot, we’ve got to be careful with him, because at the end of the day he doesn’t look like a 20-year-old pro, he’s 14 years old.”
Cavan expects to go on loan to City Football Group club Lommel Sk in Belgium at 16. He won’t be able to play for City until he is at least 18. City edged European heavyweights Real Madrid, BVB, and Bayern Munich to win the kid’s signature.
