Manchester City have announced that Sergio Aguero will leave at the end of the season after a decade with the club.
The club’s all-time leading goalscorer, Aguero came into the Etihad at the age of 22 and earned 31 G/A in 34 games.
His last second goal to win City the 2011/2012 Premier league will go down as one of the most iconic finishes in the league’s history.
End of an era
It’s fair to say the arrival of Aguero changed everything for Manchester City and served as a revelation in the Premier League.
He was the linchpin of City’s attack, not just responsible for earning the club’s first-ever Premier League title but also notching an incredible 257 goals and 73 assists in 384 appearances. He helped the club finish with 13 trophies in 10 seasons, with the possibility of a quadruple to top it all off this term.
“For me, Aguero has always been the best striker at Man City. When things are so nice you want to see them carry on. The lads and the club will try to [win the quadruple] for him,” said Aguero’s former City teammate, Yaya Toure, in his tribute to the Argentina superstar.
Manchester City have announced to honor Aguero with his very own statue outside the Etihad to join teammates Vincent Kompany and David Silva. The Argentine has no doubt cemented his place in the Premier League’s best strikers of all-time.
Who will replace the club’s all-time top goalscorer at the Etihad?
With Aguero leaving Manchester City on a free transfer this summer with Barcelona and PSG at the top of his list, rumors are swirling on which player can fill the void at the Etihad.
While Guardiola’s team have smashed the Premier League without their best ever player, City will be looking to bolster their attacking options.
Norwegian superstar striker Erling Haaland is at the top of Guardiola’s wish list. However, BVB placed an extraordinary $212 transfer fee on the 20-year-old. City are also linked with the older and more affordable Danny Ings in addition to Haaland.
