Netflix has announced the production of an exclusive documentary focused on Vinícius Júnior, Real Madrid’s new number 7.
The Brazilian forward’s ascent to the forefront of football has been exceptional, making him one of the most prominent figures in today’s game, but not without controversy.
The documentary, announced by Netflix on their Spanish social media on Tuesday, will portray the Brazilian star’s challenging La Liga tenure, including several instances of racial abuse.
The 22-year-old also teased a clip from the forthcoming documentary on Instagram yesterday.
The Netflix documentary will shine a light on Vini Jr.’s racist abuse
Unfortunately, the 22-year-old has become a target of racist chants from opponent’s fans across stadiums in La Liga. The most recent incident at Valencia left the player in tears, which prompted him and his club to write a series of anti-racism for the Spanish to do better.
Vini’s home country Brazil is wearing all-black kits for the first time this weekend to show their support for the player.
The documentary, scheduled for release in 2025, will illuminate Vini Jr.’s steadfast stand against racism in football. It’ll also give fans an inside look at the lifestyle one of the best footballers in the game today.
The film builds on a rising trend of creating documentaries on footballers over the last few years, including one about Messi and David Beckham.
