It looks like someone benefited from the latest inflation run. A card collector from Bedfordshire, England, made Internet waves when he shared the bids on this rare Messi and Ronaldo autographed Topps card.
“It was a complete shock. I had no idea it was so valuable until I started getting offers of £45k plus within 30 minutes of the reveal. It was a surreal 24 hours,” said Ryan, the card’s owner, who spent just $34 on the original card.
The offers have since risen to a whopping $137,000. Talk about a lottery ticket. But then again, having two of the game’s GOATS on one card, let alone a famous napkin, is extremely rare.
The 1/1 card is officially part of the “Topps Messi-Ronaldo Dual Auto 1/1 Superfractor card” set, first released in the late 2010s. That would’ve been when Messi and Ronaldo were battling it out in El Clasico at the peak of their powers.
For the record, you can bid on a 2022-23 Topps Triple autographed Chrome card featuring Messi, Ronaldo, and Erling Haaland‘s autograph for $1,300 right now.
Where did card collecting go for 25 years? Who knows, but the nostalgia is back and back in a big way.
