FC Barcelona is back with another special edition music kit for El Clasico.
Barcelona and Spotify continue their unique sport and culture collaboration by featuring another world-renowned artist. Previous logos included Drake, the Rolling Stones, Karol G, and Rosalia.
Coldplay becomes the fifth major artist to be featured in place of the Spotify logo on the front of Barcelona’s kit for an El Clasico on October 27 at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The English band will release their 10th album, Moon Music, on October 4 in anticipation of the El Clasico. Legendary composer Brian Eno is credited on the album for all those doubting the band’s drawdown into pop drudgery.
However, the band’s new single “In My Dreams” features Taylor Swift. Other collaborators include Chainsmokers, so take potential sonic quality with caution.
What will the Barcelona x Coldplay kit look like?
Coldplay’s Moon Music logo will take center stage on the kit. The motif showcases various moon phases, with the full moon prominently displayed at the center.
Coldplay holds a special place in the hearts of Blaugrana fans, as the group’s hit track “Viva La Lida” became synonymous with the trophy-laden Pep Guardiola era.
The club also played the track in the last game at Camp Nou before the stadium underwent renovations.
“I did know about Barça and I remember reading it at the time and thinking, how cool, because they were the best team on the planet at that time and they played football from another galaxy and it’s interesting because this song really took shape in Barcelona,” Coldplay’s Jonny Buckland touted in an interview with Catalunya Radio in 2023.
“We love playing it, especially here where it was born and where it has such a special meaning.”
Can music and memory go hand in hand this El Clasico?
Despite last season’s missteps, Coldplay’s unspoken energy is still etched in fans’ memories. Barcelona’s nostalgic crowd must feel optimistic about retaking El Clasico’s dominance this season.
New boss Hansi Flick has the team flying high, having won its first six La Liga games. The side, led by teenage superstar Lamine Yamal, continues to create and pour in goals. Robert Lewandowski and Raphinia are also excelling, with eight contributions apiece.
Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti’s Blancos are clicking with new frontman Kylian Mbappe and only improving on their quest for a 37th La Liga title.
The Coldplay x Barcelona kit will be available a week before El Clasico online and at the Barca stores. It’s ready for your wallets. Let’s see if we can say the same about Coldplay’s new tunes.
