Fashion and football meet again as AS Roma releases a new fourth kit. The Romans have teamed up with Adidas to create a 2024 ‘ASR Origins’ kit that brings back some of the hallmarks of the late 1990s era.
The new AS Roma fourth kit adopts the traditional deep red colorway. But what draws attention is the Diadora orange polo collar once worn by Giallorossi legend Francesco Totti before the century mark.
1998 marked the year Totti took over as team captain and helped lead Roma 3-1 over Lazio in the Derby della Capitale on April 11, 1999. A goal scorer, he also wound up Lazio fans with his post-game celebrating undershirt printing “Vi ho purgato ancora” or “I’ve purged you guys again.”
Of course, the ubiquitous black herringbone pattern on the 2023/24 fourth kit may irk some of the most loyal fans looking for a cleaner look. However, the old-school badge might be enough to balance out some of the disappointment.
The fourth shirt echoes the Romans’ classic shirts since the club’s founding in 1927, providing a modern revisualization of the Capitoline She-Wolf. The white Adidas logo also gives off the same DIADORA vibes that once stood there. We think all fans could do well without the sponsor logo in the middle, but we’ll have to take it as it is.
AS Roma will wear the fourth kit on April 6 against Lazio to pay homage to the 25th-anniversary match in which Roma scuppered Lazio’s Scudetto chances.
Who’ll be the hero in this one?
