Authorities arrested a football fan for wielding a chainsaw during a CAF Champions League match in Tunis.
Violence interrupted the return leg of the quarterfinal between Tunisia’s Esperance and Algeria’s JS Kabylie at Rades Stadium on Saturday, causing a 40-minute delay to the second half.
“You’re not allowed to bring a lighter into a stadium…,” tweeted one fan in what he also described as “extremely abnormal” behavior in Tunisia.

Esperance supporters engaged in altercations with security personnel and ignited fireworks in the stands. Several small fires broke out near the stadium seating, prompting the call for firefighters to extinguish them.
Prior to the incident, local reports indicate that thieves broke into a stadium warehouse and stole several pieces of equipment, including a chainsaw.
“We can confirm the arrest of a fan holding the chainsaw,” reported an unknown source at the Ministry.
Police detained 66 Algerian fans, the latter who claimed of provocations and abuse.
With a 2-1 aggregate triumph, Esperance moved forward to the semifinals where they will challenge Egypt‘s Al-Ahly.
