On Wednesday, the Egyptian police announced that they had successfully retrieved a silver medal stolen from the luxury villa of Liverpool football striker Mohamed Salah.
Two thieves, one of whom was a former security guard at the residential complex where Salah lives, committed the burglary on March 2. The Egyptian Ministry of Interior stated that they had recovered all the stolen items, including sports shoes, a silver medal, and TV receivers.
The police identified the silver medal in a photo posted on Facebook, which showed that it was for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Salah participated in the AFCON finals in both 2017 and 2021, both losing efforts.

Salah returns to Egypt next week
The Egypt captain is due to visit his home country next week, where he will lead the national team in AFCON qualifying matches against Malawi on March 24 and 28.
Salah has been in top form for Liverpool recently, having scored his 129th Premier League goal last week to become the club’s all-time top scorer in the competition. He broke Robbie Fowler’s record.
This latest incident serves as a reminder of the security risks that high-profile footballers face, even within their own homes. Manchester United superstar Marcus Rashford and Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema also had their houses broken into in the past.
