Enzo Alves, the 15-year-old son of Real Madrid icon Marcelo, is stepping into the spotlight with Spain‘s Under-17 national team. It’s a milestone reflecting his steady growth at Real Madrid’s youth academy and his commitment to forging his own path.
He joined Madrid’s academy in 2017. Since then, he’s emerged as a forward of real promise, scoring four goals in five appearances for Spain’s Under-15s. Although his father represented Brazil 58 times, Enzo was born and raised in Madrid. That connection to the city made him choose La Roja’s youth ranks over the land of his father’s legendary achievements.
His father, proud but measured, once said, “I was never in any doubt that my son should learn his trade in Madrid’s academy.” Marcelo cheered again when news of Enzo’s call-up broke. “Congratulations on this achievement!” he wrote, echoing the sentiments of Real Madrid fans who have watched Enzo’s ascent.
Despite his age, he’s jumped levels quicker than most. He’s been promoted to older teams at Real Madrid and has already trained with the Under-18 squad. Coaches describe him as physically strong for his years, showing a rare calmness around goal. Scouts say he has a knack for timing his runs, an attribute that has turned heads during tournaments.
Carving his own legacy
Not everyone finds it easy to break away from a father’s shadow. Enzo, however, appears comfortable in his role. He credits his Real Madrid academy peers for challenging him to improve, and teammates say he doesn’t trade on the Marcelo name. Instead, he works as if he’s just another kid chasing the same dream.
Spain’s U-17 coach, Hernan Perez, included Enzo in the 20-player squad for a crucial set of European Championship qualifiers. Spain will face Norway and Germany in Almendralejo before taking on Austria in Mérida.
Real Madrid officials remain careful about his development, emphasizing patience over the rush of hype. They see promise in him. Still, they know progress in youth football doesn’t guarantee a seamless transition to the pro ranks.
For now, Enzo Alves is enjoying his call-up and the pride that comes with wearing Spain’s crest. He has time on his side, along with a sense of purpose inherited from the family name.
