Contrary to what you believe, Liverpool boss Arne Slot used to have a thick pad of hair. So luscious in fact, some Reds fans are calling him Tom Cruise.
A photo resurfaced online that shows Slot as a youth player for FC Zwolle. How he transformed from locks to George Costanza’s baldness is just a story in evolution. Who knew the hair was incubating a genius coach.
Slot spent his entire 18-year career playing midfield in the Netherlands.
He suited up for some notable clubs, including NAC Breda and Sparta Rotterdam, before returning to FC Zwolle towards the twilight of his playing days. It was there he decided to retire in 2013.
But Slot’s journey into “sexy bald bastard,” as some Feyenoord fans called him, is now coming to absolute fruition.
Since his arrival at Anfield, Slot has achieved what many thought nearly unachievable—filling the shoes of Jurgen Klopp. He’s taken Liverpool to the summit of the Premier League, securing victory in eight of the team’s first ten matches.
Slot has also led the team with great success on the European front. Their thrilling 4-0 victory over Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen has kept the team unbeaten in the Champions League.
Despite concerns over minimal player transfers, Slot has proven that his existing squad has plenty of talent. Many had speculated that taking over from Klopp might prove too challenging, but Slot appears to have seamlessly carried forward the momentum set by the former manager.
Liverpool supporters have overwhelmingly embraced their new coach. During Tuesday night’s game against Leverkusen, fans proudly unfurled a banner with Slot’s face and the playful slogan, “Arne’s Slot Machine.”
The challenges keep coming for Liverpool though. The Reds prepare for another vital match against Aston Villa this week. Slot, however, remains composed and assures fans that complacency won’t creep in, despite their current top position in the league standings.
Slot emphasizes the importance of continuous improvement and maintaining high standards. “We are there to do our work and become better players on a daily basis or keep having the same level,” the baldest man in the Premier League said ahead of the upcoming fixture.
“It’s not the first time that this club is where it is at the moment. I think for most of these players it is a normal situation and I don’t think they get carried away at all by us being top of the league at the moment.
“They know how small the margins are when it comes to our results and the amount of points we are ahead of the other teams.
“I’m not trying to manage expectations with the squad because we don’t talk about expectations.
“The only expectations I have is that they put the same effort in on a daily basis. That’s the only thing we focus on.”
His words reflect the team’s primacy at the moment, and we’re not talking about Slot’s hair (or lack thereof).
