After months of pre-Copa America speculation concerning Julian Alvarez’s Manchester City future, the dust has finally settled.

The talismanic Argentine forward will join Atletico Madrid on a $104 million deal, a record sale for the Premier League side. Alvarez allegedly rejected a move to PSG, which offered to double his salary.

The industrious Argentine “Spider” contributed 19 goals in 54 matches for the Sky Blues last season. But his secondary status behind goal machine pushed him for the exit.

Alvarez wants main man status at Atletico

The 24-year-old wants to start more consistently. And head coach and fellow Argentine is there to grant the wish.

Cityzens are already in full regret mode over Alvarez’s departure. The two-time Premier League champion was also one of the breakout stars of the triumphant Argentina 2022 squad.

But the silver lining is good business for City who paid just $17 million for the Argentine’s transfer two years ago. Alvarez will join fellow Albiceleste teammates , Nahuel Molina, and Angel Correa at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Colchoneros are also on the brink of signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher on a $42 million fee. Simeone’s side is rebuilding fast.
