Arsenal will host Manchester United in the third round of the FA Cup. The announcement comes just two days from their epic Premier League clash.
With 27 titles between them, this historic rivalry has produced some of the competition’s most memorable moments, from United’s treble-defining victory in 1999 to Arsenal’s penalty heroics in 2005.
The two sides, revamped under respective coaches Mikel Arteta and Ruben Amorim, are itching to prove something this season. Arteta won the cup in his inaugural season with the North London club; Amorim will be desperate to do the same in his first term with the Red Devils.
The third-round tie will take place on January 11 at Emirates Stadium. Amorim will get his first taste of the iconic rivalry when the two sides face off this Wednesday in the Premier League.
The competition’s holders, Manchester United, have won the FA Cup 13 times behind Arsenal’s record-setting 14.
Despite finishing 8th in the Premier League last term, United salvaged their poor campaign by defeating Man City 2-1 in the FA Cup finals at Wembley. This move earned United a spot in the Europa League. It was Erik ten Hag’s second trophy for the club before the sack earlier this 2024/25 season.
