Kylian Mbappe looks set to wear a black mask if he plays tonight against Holland. The superstar striker suffered a bloody broken nose in France‘s Euro opener against Austria last Monday.
Real Madrid’s newest Galactico appeared in training yesterday in a bespoke French national-colored mask. The blue, white, and red protective gear made the rounds on social media after the player asked fans their ideas for masks after Monday’s match.
The mask designer undoubtedly obliged and made a hit. In addition to the Tricolore colors, the mask features the iconic FFF gallic emblem. Meanwhile, fans hoping to see the mask in live-action tonight against the Netherlands will have to temper expectations. UEFA rules stipulate that masks can only retain a solid color.
25-year-old Mbappe posted a sneak peek of his game-time black mask on Instagram stories early Friday. France coach Didier Deschamps expects the superstar to hit the field, but he’ll start the game on the bench.
“Everything is going well, after the shock we had,” Deschamps said at a news conference on Thursday. “He was able to take part in some light exercises yesterday, and that will be the same this evening. Everything is evolving in the right direction, we’ll do all we can to ensure that he’ll be available tomorrow.”
Tonight, a French victory against the Netherlands catapults them into the quarter-final.
