Goal machine Robert Lewandowski has signed a four-year contract extension with the Bavarian giants that sees him with the club until 2023.
Lewandowski has scored 25 plus goals across all competitions in each full season he’s played at Bayern Munich. He’s already notched five goals in two Bundesliga games this season.
“Bayern has become my sporting home. I am proud to be a part of this club,” said Lewandowski. “Bayern are one of the three biggest clubs in the world and have a superb squad. I am convinced that we can achieve a lot in the coming year.”
The best #9 in the world?
The 31-year-old Polish striker poses just as much a danger now to defenses as he did when he first signed for Bayern Munich from Dortmund in 2014.
Lewandowski is Bundesliga’s all-time leading foreign scorer with 207 goals and remains third on Bayern’s all-time scoring list behind club icons Gerd Muller (398) and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (217).
“Coutinho and Lewandowski can become an absolute dream duo in Germany and Europe,” said legendary Bayern player Lothar Matthäus. “The Brazilian magical foot and the best striker in the world. I repeat myself as I emphasized for years that Robert is for me the best and most complete number 9.”
Lewandowski’s new contract makes the striker one of the highest-paid footballers in the Bundesliga — he reportedly makes in excess of €20m a year. A five-time German league champion, Lewandowski still has his sights set on a first Champions League title.
He helped Borussia Dortmund to a second-place finish in the 2013 Champions League final against Bayern. He also ended runner-up to Ronaldo as the tournament’s top-scorer.
