Teenage starlet Lily Yohannes has committed to the . The news will disappoint Dutch fans, who thought they snagged one of Europe’s best-emerging .

Yohanes won the Eredivisie’s Johan Cruijff Talent of the Season last September. At 16, she became the youngest player ever to start a UEFA Women’s Champions League match. She’s notched five in 20 matches so far this season.

She also made her USWNT debut before her 17th birthday. Last June, she scored in a friendly against South Korea after being subbed on the pitch in the first 10 minutes.

However, coach Emma Hayes avoided selecting her for the Paris Olympic Games due to Yohannes’ indecisive future. At the time, Yohannes was also applying for Dutch citizenship and wasn’t 100% sure which national side to commit.

The Springfield, Virginia-born American moved to Holland at ten and has been playing with the Ajax youth system since she was 13.

Nonetheless, on November 11, Veteran’s Day, she made her commitment to the Red, White, and Blue known. “Welcome Home,” replied the @USWNT handle on X.

“I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the United States and Dutch Football Federations for their unwavering support and patient guidance as I made my decision regarding my international future,” wrote Yohannes on Instagram. “Their dedication and encouragement have been invaluable, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to both Federations.”

After much consideration, I have decided to commit to represent my country, the United States. The U.S. is my homeland, my birthplace, and where my extended family resides. These strong connections have driven me to honor my roots and proudly commit to U.S. Soccer. I am excited and eager to continue putting in the work and earn my place on the U.S. Women’s National Team.”

Yohannes’s next chapter awaits. USWNT fans may see the so-called ‘Sam Mewis heir apparent’ suit up later this month as the team prepares for a friendly against at Wembley Stadium, followed by a match against the Netherlands on December 3.
