Dutch club PSV Eindhoven confirmed that the pitch invader who attacked Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrović received a 40-year stadium ban.
And that’s on top of the three-month prison sentence the fan is currently facing. PSV also banned him from the area around Philips Stadium for two years.
What happened? A 20-year-old PSV fan stormed the pitch during a late February Europa League match between PSV Eindhoven and Sevilla. The pitch invader sprinted onto the field and socked Dmitrović in the face.
The Serbian international quickly pinned down the pugnacious fan, who shouldn’t have attended the match in the first place. The hooligan entered the stadium using a friend’s ticket despite being previously banned until 2026.
Security promptly grabbed the young man and dragged him off the pitch and out of the park.
PSV may now face heavy fines from UEFA due to the incident for failing to provide stronger security.
Sevilla went on the win the tie 3-2 on aggregate. They face Manchester United in leg one of the Europa League quarterfinal at Old Trafford on April 13.
A similar pitch invasion incident occurred at Anfield weeks later when a fan slid-tackle Liverpool’s Andy Robertson. Liverpool promptly banned the trespasser from attending further matches.
