London: a sprawling metropolis steeped in history, iconic landmarks, mixed culture, and of course, football. The English Premier League (EPL) is the epitome of top-tier European football, boasting some of the best talent and clubs in the world. Seven of the 20 Premier League teams this 2023/24 reside in diverse parts of London.

It’s been a while since this happened; you’d have to trace back to the 1994/1995 season to find seven London-based teams. Notably, the all-time high was during the 1989/1990 season when a record 8 London teams graced the Premier League.

Arsenal

Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham have played in 30 consecutive Premier League seasons. In this campaign, the Gunners like their chances of winning their first title since the Invincibles 2003 season. Head coach Mikel Arteta strengthened the squad by acquiring three summer : Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, and Declan Rice. 

Arsenal Football Club, founded in 1886 by workers from the Woolwich Arsenal Armament Factory, moved to North London in 1913 and established itself as a dominant force in English football. The club has enjoyed significant success, especially under managers like Herbert Chapman in the 1930s and Arsène Wenger in the late 20th century. As of 2021, Arsenal has secured 13 Premier League titles, 14 FA Cups, 2 League Cups, 1 European Cup Winners’ Cup, and 17 FA Community Shields.

Brentford

Brentford made a triumphant entrance into the Premier League in the 2021/22 season, marking their first appearance in England’s football zenith since 1947.

Founded in 1889, Brentford Football Club has fluctuated between English football’s second and third tiers. Their iconic home was Griffin Park for 116 years until 2020 when they transitioned to the Brentford Community Stadium.

Chelsea

Crystal Palace

The Eagles are entering their 14th year in the Premier League after finishing eleventh last term under the tutelage of Roy Hodgson.

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, commonly known as “,” started in 1882. After spending over a century at White Hart Lane, they call North London home, with the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as their modern base.

Spurs have yet to win the Premier League despite the heroics of goal-scoring machine Harry Kane. Will he stay, or will he go? Spurs’ fate seems to rest in the hands of 30 per season superstar striker. 

United

West Ham United Football Club, commonly called “The Hammers,” established itself in 1895, initially as Thames Ironworks FC — how cool is that?   

The Hammers play their home games in East London, and since 2016, the London Stadium in Stratford has been their base after a long tenure at the Boleyn Ground (often called Upton Park). 

The Hammers have cultivated a passionate fanbase throughout their history and have seen various successes, notably in the FA Cup. With a rich heritage filled with memorable moments and iconic players, West Ham continues to compete with vigor in the Premier League.
