Chilling scenes out of the Peruvian city of Huancayo as a single lightning bolt strikes a group of soccer players, killing one.
The incident occurred during the first half of a match between teams Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chocca.
With dark clouds gathering and the sound of thunder echoing, the referred paused the match in the 22nd minute. But as the players exited the field, a lightning bolt struck some players, leading them instantly to the ground, in sync.
The scene looked eerily similar to that of last year when an Indonesian footballer immediately died after a direct on-pitch lightning strike.
39-year-old defender for Juventud Bellavista, José Hugo de la Cruz Meza, was fatally injured. The goalkeeper, Juan Chocca Llacta, also suffered serious injuries and remains in critical condition with severe burns.
