His brother described the grim prognosis. “I learned that the doctor at the hospital said my brother had too much bleeding in his head and that there was little hope of survival,” he wrote in a post shared with local media. “The hospital was going to remove his tubes.”
Guo’s father flew to Spain almost immediately. Upon his arrival, doctors recommended switching off life support unless Guo could be transferred to China for further treatment. The family insisted on exploring every possible option, even though they understood the medical team’s concerns and the daunting costs that lay ahead.
A father refuses to let hope slip away
In an agreement with the Beijing Football Association, the organization pledged to cover hospital expenses in Spain and the air transfer back to China. Yet once Guo arrived home, treatment costs would fall on both his family and the association. “They have a team of professional lawyers,” Guo’s father said. “We are just ordinary people, and you can see how difficult it will be to fight a legal battle.”
RC Alcobendas, the Spanish club Guo was facing at the time of the accident, issued a statement extending their sympathies. “We send all our support to him, his family, and his team at this difficult time,” a spokesperson said. “We sincerely wish your speedy recovery.”
Guo’s journey to the Bayern World Squad had been filled with promise. As the only Chinese player selected for the program, he hoped to build a successful career in Europe and eventually represent China on the biggest stages. His potential was evident, and those who trained with him praised his commitment and discipline on the field.
