Germany’s football story began in a Leipzig restaurant in 1900. Over the next century and a quarter, the national team would lift trophies, spark unforgettable celebrations, and inspire millions. In a nod to those countless memories, Adidas and the German Football Association (DFB) have launched a limited-edition kit commemorating 125 years of German football.

It’s more than just a shirt. According to a DFB statement, “The shirt symbolizes the emotion invoked by the special moments experienced by both the team and the fans during this period.” Drawing inspiration from the 1974 jersey—the year Germany won the World Cup on home soil—the new design embraces retro touches while adding modern elements.

Classic black and white create a timeless look for outfield players, with a light blue version reserved for . Pinstripe fabric, a round-neck collar, and neatly finished cuffs add subtle detail. On the chest, the Adidas Trefoil logo sits opposite a commemorative DFB crest, both of which set this kit apart from recent designs.

A nod to 1974’s Triumph

A robust “Culture Wear” line also underscores the deep connection between Adidas and the DFB. Pieces like the quarter-zip sweater are inspired by company founder Adolf Dassler’s attire in a famous photograph of him holding the first-ever cleated boots. It’s a way to blend football nostalgia with a contemporary style that fans can wear off the pitch.

Supporters worldwide will see the men’s national team wear the anniversary kit for the first time on March 20 in Milan, when Germany faces in the opening leg of the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals. A few weeks later, in April, the women’s national team will don the same look as they continue their journey on the international stage.

Adidas has also produced a short film titled “The Fabric of Legends,” featuring past and present figures who’ve shaped German football. From newcomers like Jule Brand to veterans like Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer, the campaign celebrates the shared legacy of a program that now boasts more than 24,000 clubs and over 7.7 million members.

The kit is available in short- and long-sleeved versions, priced at about $107 and $117, respectively. Shorts, socks, and other commemorative pieces round out the collection. As the DFB prepares for its next chapter, this release stands as a tribute to a century and a quarter of football passion etched into every stitch.
