No team does kit drops quite like Barcelona, even with the season already underway.
The Catalan giants unveiled their new away all-black kits on Wednesday to much avail. It’s only the fourth time in the club’s history to have released a black jersey. The last iteration of black and gold emerged during the 2020/21 season, with prior versions released in 2011/12 and 2013/14 seasons.
All black versions have become fan favorites and collector’s items. Barcelona is off to a promising start this season, currently undefeated atop the La Liga table. However, they’ve never won the league donning a all-black kit.
FC Barcelona 24/25 away kit
This season’s 24/25 away kit, made by Nike, features some striking details.
Within the black colorway lies accented Blaugrana colors on the monochromatic badge and Nike swoosh. Further blue and red hues scale the shirt’s sides, along with Barcelona’s 125th anniversary inside the collar. On the back of the collar stands the iconic Catalan flag.
Upon closer inspection, the shirt incorporates woven fabric stripes that provide further eye-catching details. Black shorts and socks complete the look.
The new away kit also ditches the old yellow Spotify logo for a streaminlined red verision that excludes the streaming service’s name. Unfortunately, confusion over creative direction caused inventory issues leaving the club with both versions of both old and new Spotify versions. However, Barcelona is exclusively selling the updated kit on its website. The player names and number inherit the fiery bold color, as do the accompaning side sponsor logos.
The sleek and contemproary feel of the black kit offers the perfect fusion of the club’s history and modern, cutting-edge design. The Blaugrana will put it to the test away at Girona on September, just enough time for fans to cop the new kit.
