Boston’s new NWSL team will be known as BOS Nation Football Club, whatever that means. Alright, it’s an anagram of Bostonian with the letters rearranged: BOS provides the letters “B,” “O,” and “S,” and Nation provides “N,” “A,” “T,” “I,” “O,” and “N.” Apologies for the over-explanation.
The club disclosed its new name on Tuesday to little avail. There’s already an online petition to change it. But the criticism didn’t stop there.
The club also released a highly controversial promotional video, “Too Many Balls,” featuring Tom Brady. Of course.
Despite the video still being up, the club issued an apology on Wednesday for the offensive video, with some calling it transphobic.
“We are proud to be part of the most inclusive sports league in the world and are committed to upholding the unifying values that define the NWSL and our club,” read the letter. “Thank you to all who have held us accountable by calling for us to do better. “We hear you and we will, together.”
The team opens NWSL play in 2026 and intends to play at White Stadium in Boston’s Jamaica Plain/Roxbury neighborhood. Thankfully, the kits will be green. But not like this.
