Burnley has gained momentum in the Premier League through an investment from the sports power couple J.J. and Kealia Watt.
Yesterday, the former NFL player and USWNT star announced their investment in a promotional video. The three-time defensive player of the year admitted that their dollars might be a “minority investment but massive emotional investment.”
No one needs to look further than the rollercoaster of emotions Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s journey as their club birthed a promotion to the English Football League.
Luckily for the Watts, their club is already a few steps ahead playing “top flight” in the pyramid of English football.
The Watts take a page from the Wrexham playbook
“When you invest in a club that’s been around since 1882, you must have great respect for its history and tradition,” said J.J. Watt.
“We understand that not only are we investing in the squad and manager, we’re investing in the town and its people. We take that responsibility very seriously and intend to work hard in earning their trust and support.”
The Clarets clinched the EFL Championship title last week with a 1-nil win over local rivals Blackburn. Burnley manager Vincent Kompany even took an epic knee slide after the victory and Premier League promotion.
The Belgian coach deservedly won the championship manager of the season.
With Kompany and significantly higher revenues guaranteed next season, Watt’s investment is in good hands.
The athletic couple, who attended a Burney match earlier this season at Turf Moor, seem well prepared for the rollercoaster ride that is the Premier League.
