New Chelsea signing Mykhailo Mudryk has issued an apology for using the N-word in a Tiktok video last July.
The 22-year-old Ukrainian midfielder, who signed for the Blues in a blockbuster $110 move in January, was allegedly reciting a rap song in the now-removed video, which had over 200,000 views.
The song? Lil Baby’s 2017 hit “Freestyle.”
“Mykhailo is deeply sorry for any offense caused,” the player’s representative told the Sun newspaper.
“While his intention was solely to recite lyrics of a song, Mykhailo regrets his decision and wholeheartedly accepts it was not appropriate.”
Anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out has said it “condemns the use of all racial slurs irrespective of context.
“The use of this term by high-profile figures in football can only serve to alienate people from the game.”
Chelsea has yet to issue a club apology for their player’s racial slur.
