After putting up the boots, he always said he wanted to be a Hollywood actor. So this may be one step closer.
Former France international William Gallas thinks Cristiano Ronaldo could be on the verge of signing for Wrexham.
Ronaldo’s unprecedented $200 million per year contract is set to expire next summer. Some believe he’s warming up to the Saudi Pro League and wants a contract extension. His wife Georgina certainly enjoys the Middle East over dark and cloudy Manchester. Yet, a move west could offer more intrigue.
Wrexham, tied neck and neck with Tom Brady’s Birmingham this season, is looking for promotion to the Championship next term.
Ronaldo, still motivated at 39 to hit the millennium mark in goals and play in the next World Cup, could be the perfect signing from a branding perspective.
Ronaldo set to become Wrexham’s true Hollywood star?
The League One side is already a household name, given the success of the Netflix docuseries Welcome to Wrexham. Ronaldo, now the king of YouTube and all social media, would be the icing on the cake in Wrexham’s Hollywood story. Imagine CR7 lifting the club into the Premier League.
“Anything is possible in football in the modern game, it wouldn’t surprise me because money talks and we’ve seen that nothing is impossible these days,” the Frenchman said in an interview with Prime Casino.
“You see young players going to Saudi Arabia when they would’ve have ever left Europe in the past.
“Footballers and football clubs are now obsessed with their brands too and their sponsors, you can make a lot of money and not just from your wages at your club. Now everything is about social media and having millions of followers, both Wrexham and Cristiano Ronaldo have huge profiles so why not.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is more than just a footballer, he’s a product and he’s also still scoring so many goals on the pitch, there will be so many clubs still happy to have him.”
