What’s the best way to seek vengeance against one of your old clubs? Buy them, of course!
That’s the case with Espanyol striker Martin Braithwaite, who left the club earlier this summer. The former Barcelona player is keen to buy the La Liga side as payback for supposed mistreatment.
Can Braithwaite afford to buy Espanyol?
Of course. Braithwaite is one of the richest footballers in the world, a testament to his financial acumen and on-pitch success.
Instead of spending millions on material goods, the Dane’s invested them in real estate. He’s built a $222 million portfolio via NYCE Companies in the United States.
In fact, Braithwaite rivals superstars Messi and Ronaldo on the Forbes list of wealthiest athletes in the world.
Braithwaite undoubtedly dreams big, as does his entrepreneurial wife. His significant other, Anne-Laure, runs a successful restaurant business and clothing line in France and Spain.
Braithwaite’s time at Espanyol was marked by significant success. He emerged as the top scorer of the Segunda Division last season, netting an impressive 22 goals. His remarkable efforts played a pivotal role in Espanyol’s return to La Liga for the upcoming season.
But the 33-year-old had second thoughts. Braithwaite triggered his release clause due to “a lack of respect.” After flirting with a move to Greece-side Olympiacos this summer, he inked a deal with Brazilian side Gremio in July.
And with his future club settled, now he’s got time to get stuck in. And what better way to stick to the man than to buy the club that mistreated him and sack the coaches?
Talk about a mic drop.
