What took him so long? That’s the question lingering on the minds of Norway fans as Erling Haaland is on the verge of breaking the country’s all-time goal-scoring record.
The Manchester City star needs only two goals to surpass Jorgan Juve’s record-setting 33 strikes, which has stood for 86 years. The only pre-Haaland challenger since was Aston Villa legend Jon Carewe, who ended his international career with 24.
During this international break, Haaland faces off against Slovenia and Austria in the Nations League. Should he break Juve’s record this week, he’d done so in a fraction of the matches it took Juve.
Haaland is already breaking all types of records this season. The Norwegian ace just equalled Cristiano Ronaldo‘s record as the fastest player to reach 100 goals for a single club.
However, Haaland has a long way to go before he inches near Mr. Champions League goal-scoring record. Haaland’s 41 is a long way from Ronaldo’s 140 strikes. Robert Lewandowski is third behind Messi in that race with 96 goals.
The 24-year-old Norwegian striker is also expected to set some Premier League records this season, including the most hat-tricks in one season. He’s already on his way to notching his third consecutive Golden Boot, tying only Henry and Alan Shearer.
