Colombian international Jhon Duran is one of the hottest transfer prospects right now, given his latest performances for Aston Villa. So much so that the Midlands outfit has placed a huge price tag on their young star, exceeding $100 million.
On Wednesday, the 20-year-old super-sub scored a worldie against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The forward one-timed a bouncer way beyond the box and deftly knocked it 25 yards over Manuel Neuer. Accustomed to Duran’s cameos and magic moments, fans erupted at Villa Park.
The goal was his sixth strike and fifth winner in less than 300 minutes of touching grass this season. No striker across Europe’s top leagues has more goals per 90 minutes than Duran—yes, and that includes super scorer Erling Haaland.
Here’s another one of Duran’s recent bangers off the bench.
Not surprisingly, Chelsea has re-taken a keen interest in the young striker. The Blues nearly snatched Duran this summer, but Unai Emery successfully warded off London’s big spenders. Conor Gallagher also helped — he rejected the swap deal, which officially canceled the bid.
According to Team Talk’s new price tag, any future offer will have to be at least $105 m. Given Duran’s superb consistency, his price could skyrocket considerably. The forward intends to play a vital role in pushing Villa’s deep run in the Champions League and Premier League top-four finishes.
Aston Villa faces off against Manchester United on Sunday back in the Premier League. Perhaps the Red Devils, desperate, will be the ones bidding the maximum $131 for Duran’s services this January window. Only Unai Emery is smart enough to know to take the bait.
