Some fans are oddly unpredictable. Take the Madridistas queuing up outside the Santiago Bernabeu for tonight's Champions League semifinal showdown between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Instead of coming up with a slick chant mocking their opponents, they're lambasting an old arch nemesis of theirs who's not even in the league anymore: Lionel Messi.
“Leo Messi, son of a b**ch,” Madrid fans shout in fiery unison. Of course, we're all lemmings and potential fanatics; all it takes is one fan to get a shout going before it spreads to the masses.
“This is their most imp game of the season and all they are thinking about is Messi. Most disgusting fans itw,” wrote one Messi fan on X.
The irony, of course, is two-fold. Barcelona fans recently chanted “Vinicius d*e” before their Champions League clash against PSG.
Certain players' unparalleled success haunts their opponents beyond the immediate realm of focus, creating the ultimate distraction. When you're great, you're great, stinging lasting memories for everybody.
