Kylian Mbappe is already planning his future off the pitch.
The 25-year-old became the new majority owner of French club Caen, making him Europe’s youngest active footballer to own a club. He owns 80% of the Ligue 2 club’s shares, with the remaining shares to French TV producer Pierre-Antin Capton.
The $22m investment is pocket change for the French striker, who’ll earn a $108 million signing bonus at Real Madrid. That’s on top of his $16 million salary a year and the $20 million or so he pulls as a marketer each year.
What is Mbappe’s history with Caen?
SM Caen is Mbappe’s former youth side, yet he never exactly inked a deal with them. He merely trialed. His wise parents backed away from his signature after the side was relegated from Ligue 1.
The Normandy-based team continues to fluctuate between the two top divisions of French football. But as they say, buy low and sell high. We suspect Mbappe will finally be suiting up for the Caen one day as a player and owner.
Until then, one of the best players in world football takes his talents to the Santiago Bernebeau.
