We’re talking about the all-important player: the winger. Let’s take a look at the best wingers to ever play the position in the modern era.

Take note: For the sake of definition, we do not include Lionel Messi as a winger due to his No.10/forward role. However, Ronaldo appears on the list since he spent most of his earlier career in the winger position.

10. Mo Salah

The “Egyptian King” Mo Salah has torched defenses on the right wing with his remarkable pace, dribbling, and finishing ability. Going into his fifth season as a Red, the player has racked up 133 goals and 49 assists in 211 appearances.

The two-time Premier League top scorer and African Footballer of the Year played an integral role in Liverpool’s 2018/19 Champions League title and subsequent Premier League top-finish the following 2019/20 season.

5. Robert Pires

Possibly the man responsible for reinventing the Premier league winger, left-winger Robert Pires made a habit of contributing both goals and assists for the Gunners. He scored 85 goals and notched 41 assists during this career in North London, helping the side two Premier League titles, one as in Invincible, and two FA Cups.

4. Luis Figo

The playmaking right-winger Luis Figo was one of the few players that donned both the Blaugrana and Los Blancos kit.

The crafty attacking midfielder scored 45 goals and created 51 assists in 248 appearances for Barcelona over five years. He combined with the likes of Ronaldo and Patrick Kluivert to win two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey, a Spanish Super Cup, and a UEFA Super Cup and Cup Winner’s Cup.

At Madrid, Luis Figo scored 56 goals and snatched 93 assists in 253 appearances over five years. Playing alongside Zidane and Ronaldo, he received the Ballon d’Or in 2000, winning a Champions League and two La Ligas.

One of the Premier League’s greatest-ever players, Eden Hazard was a creative sensation at Chelsea.

Nicknamed the “Belgian Messi,” Eden Hazard’s speed and ball control were second to none. The attacking midfielder scored 110 goals and generated 92 assists in his 7 seasons with the club. A two-time Premiership League champion, Hazard has also won two domestic cups and the Europa League in 2013.
