Sergio Ramos will depart his homegrown club, Sevilla, for a second time. The 38-year-old Spaniard informed the La Liga club of his decision earlier today, making him a free agent.

Ramos joined Sevilla’s youth setup as a 12-year-old before leaving for Real Madrid in 2005. Of course, the rest is history: the Los Blancos defender won four Champions League titles and five La Liga trophies across 16 seasons, etching his name as a club legend. He’s also the defender with the most UCL goals in history.

“Sergio Ramos has informed Sevilla FC that he will not stay next season after fulfiling his dream of returning to the club where he came through the academy before making his international debut. Ramos made 37 appearances this season, scoring on seven occasions,” wrote the team in a club statement. Ramos made a total of 87 appearances throughout his Sevilla career.

Where to next for Sergio Ramos?

Rumors are swirling that Sergio Ramos’ next professional step lies in the MLS. The player made a surprise visit at game 4 of the NBA finals last Friday, sitting next to Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki. Ramos was in BIG D to support fellow Real Madrid alum, friend, and NBA star Luka Doncic.

Inter Miami and the MLS expansion club San Diego FC (set to launch in 2025) are both rumored to be interested in signing Ramos. The is also a possible destination.

This isn’t the first time Ramos has considered an MLS move—Inter Miami approached him last summer after the defender’s PSG exit before he re-signed for Sevilla. But the Herons have already met the restriction on the number of designated players allotted to MLS teams: , Busquets, and Leonardo Campana.

Ramos expects a big offer, unlike Luis Suarez and Jordi Alaba, who signed for around $200,000 a season. Given Giorgio Chiellini’s retirement last season, is the other MLS club that could offer Ramos a big payday and beautiful California weather. Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr will likely do everything to top any MLS offers.

Other big-name players associated with MLS moves are Marco Reus, Antoine Griezmann, , Kevin de Bruyne, , and Nacho.
