According to Arseblog, Mesut Ozil‘s representatives are in Washington DC to discuss the possibility of a switch to MLS club DC United.
The three-time FA Cup winner has come under scrutiny after a series of missed games and poor performances last season. Unai Emery will be looking to offload the German international as part of his revamp of the club.
Ozil’s wages, a hefty £350,000 a week, have always been a talking point amongst Arsenal fans who expect to see more from the player once dubbed the next Dennis Bergkamp.
The tenuous relationship between Ozil and Arsenal boss Unai Emery is also a cause for concern. Emery often left Ozil on the beach last season despite his availability.
Also, two names that will come up in the #dcu rumor mill as possible January transfers: Mario Balotelli and Mesut Ozil. Doesn't mean one or the other is on the way, but there has been contact between the sides. Save that for the next #sillyseason.

DC seeks Wayne Rooney‘s replacement
DC United are looking to fill the void left open by the departure of 33-year-old Wayne Rooney. Former England international signed a player-coach deal with Derby County yesterday.
Given the massive social media following of Ozil (21 million followers on Instagram alone), DC United could receive a considerable boost in sponsorships and kit sales.
For Arsenal, Ozil’s departure would also make available the funds to snatch another player with all eyes on Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona.
With less than a day left in the Premier League transfer window and the deep financial burden at play for United, this deal is unlikely but could be revisited in the future.
