One of the most successful Mexican football clubs with eleven Liga MX titles, Chivas is known to develop some of the best homegrown players including most recently, Chicharito.
Omar Bravo
The record goal scorer for the campeonisimo side with 131 goals, Omar Bravo, helped lead the Chivas side to a Mexican Championship in the 2006-07 season, including a Mexican Cup in 2016. Playing at three different times for the club throughout his 12-year career at Chivas, the gritty poacher has assured his name in club folklore.
Salvador “Chava” Reyes
Part of one of the best teams in Mexican football history, Salvador “Chava” Reyes scored the game-winning goal for what came to be the start of a historic run between 1955 – 1970 that saw Guadalajara win seven league championships. Reyes notched a total of 122 goals in his career, standing 2nd on the all-time list for club goals.
Javier Hernandez
Like Omar Bravo before him, Javier Hernandez also developed into an opportunistic poacher for Chivas. With ten goals in the 2009-2010 Clausura season, he became the league’s top scorer. Nicknamed Chicharito or little pea, Hernandez won the Mexican Championship once before moving on to Manchester United.
In January 2024, Chicharito made a triumphant return to his boyhood club.
Marco Fabian
The Mexican international has played eight years with Chivas, with an additional seven years as a youth player. The talented attacking midfielder has scored 70 domestic league goals to date, helping the club win the Mexican cup in the 2015-16 season.
Claudio Suárez Sánchez
Known as “El Emperor “ or the emperor, the hard-working defensive back Claudio Suárez Sánchez helped the Chivas side win the 1997 summer championship. In addition to first division Mexican football, he’s participated in 3 FIFA World Cups for Mexico from 1994 – 2006.
Alfredo Talavera
Making more than 200 appearances to date, the imperious goalie Alfredo Talavera has impressed ever since his inaugural season in 2009. Nicknamed Tala, Talavera is considered one of the premier goalies in Liga MX.
Paulo Chavez
The speedy Mexican midfielder Paulo Chavez played eight seasons with Guadalajara where he made over 126 appearances and won in Verano 1997. Despite his success and participation in the Copa America championships, he never made a World Cup squad.
Francisco Javier Rodriguez
Nicknamed “Maza,” the physical center back helped Chivas win the Apertura 2006, the club’s 11th championship. He has also been a cornerstone of the Mexico international team where’s earned 90 appearances.
Alberto Medina
Alberto Medina earned over 300 caps for the Chivas side, scoring 51 Mexican league goals. Leveraging his speed and crossing expertise, he played an instrumental part in the team’s run to the Apertura championship in 2006, collecting seven goals.
Carlos Salcido
The 2-time Mexican Cup winner Carlos Salcido has earned over 200 caps with the club over nine years, where he serves as captain to this day. He has also played for the national side in 3 World Cups.
Jose Manuel De La Torre
A 6-year attacking midfielder for Guadalajara, Jose Manuel De La Torre won the league title in 1986, followed by the Apertura 1997. He also managed the Chivas side, winning in Apertura 2006 and Apertura 2008.
