Cristiano Ronaldo summed it up perfectly: “A dream come true. Portugal will host the 2030 World Cup, and we are filled with pride. Together!” With these words shared on his Instagram, the Portuguese icon captured the emotions of an entire nation.
FIFA confirmed that Portugal, Spain, and Morocco would co-host the tournament.
Previously, 2010 World Cup winners Spain and Portugal had a joint bid to host the 2018 World Cup. However, Russia won the tournament by a mere two votes.
Fortunately, the Iberian nations, including Morocco, reentered their hat into the ring to snatch the 2030 spot. The first match, however, will take place in Montevideo, Uruguay, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the World Cup. Argentina and Paraguay also get a match in the second and third games, respectively.
Sometimes, we often wonder how influential Ronaldo is. It’s no surprise CR7’s Middle-East arrival also helped Saudia Arabia’s uncontested bid for the 2034 World Cup. The legend will be 41 for the 2026 World Cup. Indeed, he’ll have wrapped up 1,000 goals by then.
Could Ronaldo be featured at home in Portugal at the 2030 World Cup? That’s probably a reach, at least on the pitch — he’d be 45. But he could be suited up with a tie as Portugal’s boss.
