From ‘starboy’ to star man, 22-year-old Bukayo Saka scored his first-ever career Champions League for Arsenal tonight.
The enigmatic winger has played an instrumental role in guiding the Gunners from midtable status back to Premier League heavyweights.
His goal tonight came just 8 minutes into his Champions League debut. It’s the Gunners first Champions League goal since 2017 — that’s right, six years!
Saka’s goal leaves Arsenal fans in tears
Bukayo Saka shifted to his left foot and passed to Martin Odegaard, who fired a potent shot from the box’s edge. Goalkeeper Benitez could only parry the ball, allowing Saka to pounce and smash home the opening goal.
The goal put Arsenal up 1-nil at the Emirates. 12 minutes later, Saka notched his first Champions League assist for Leandro Trossard, also making his UCL debut. Trossard one-timed the strike after an impressive Arsenal build-up play. Jesus scored just before half-time to make it 3-0 in North London.
