England striker Harry Kane proves once again that he's no one-season wonder. In 2019, Waltham Forest Council commissioned a statue of the Three Lions' all-time top scorer in northeast London.
But the unflattering bronze sculpture, which cost $9,000 in public funds, is just seeing the light of day. Big Issue magazine released previously unseen images on Wednesday.
The publication revealed that the statue had been in storage for four years because local officials couldn't find a place to put their hometown hero. Translation: They were afraid someone would bash it—it doesn't take much to twist a fan.
Images reveal the former Tottenham striker sitting down, holding a football on his left knee. It's unclear if the Walthamstow-born player ever knew of its existence, saying he's ‘really excited' now about finding it a home.
But where will they put the goal-scoring machine, who now leads the Bundesliga with 31 strikes? Kane's local pub, The Bell, issued a social media letter asking if the statue could be placed in the pub.
“What could be better? Sipping a cold beer in the presence of footballing royalty. Let's bring Harry home–well, to our pub at least,” they wrote.
