Who doesn’t love another list? As 2024 looms large this summer, let’s examine the five best players to suit it up for the glorious tournament. Remember that this year’s Copa America includes six Concacaf guest teams, with one world-class player in particular making into the top five to watch.

5. Julian Alvarez

One of the 2022 breakout stars, Julian Alvarez is set to shine yet again at another major tournament. The 24-year-old treble-winning striker already has seven strikes for the Albiceleste.

When Scaloni puts Alvarez as his probable starter over a finisher like Lautaro Martinez it speaks volumes. Expect more Alvarez magic…loading.

4. Endrick

Although he has only earned four caps for Brazil, the 17-year-old has already scored two goals. He’s also the first player in history to win two Brazilian titles before turning 18.

Real Madrid-bound center-forward Endrick is full of both hype and promise for good reason. Copa America is likely where this talented teenager breaks out onto the international stage, even more so without Neymar taking all the attention.

3. Alphonso Davies

Canadian left-back Alphonso Davies will have an interesting summer as part of Copa America and with his transfer links to Real Madrid.

The Bayern Munich star’s skill, attacking intellect, and pace are unmatched. Interestingly, Davies is 4 of 4 against Lionel across league and international matches. Canada’s opening game at Copa America is against Argentina…just saying.

2.

28 matches, 18 goals, and 8 assists so far this 23/24 season for Real Madrid. There’s a reason Vinicius Junior will reappear in the top 10 for Ballon d’Or voting at the end of this season. Should he lead La Liga giants to the Champions League and Seleção to Copa America triumph this summer, this year’s voting could be unanimously in his favor.

23-year-old Vini Junior is on an important mission (in more to maintain his status as one of the best wingers in the world. Copa America could cement that.

1. Lionel Messi

The last time Messi won the Copa America in 2022, it was the launchpad to other incredible feats. Case in point: Messi has won three more Ballon d’Ors, two The Best, and above all, the 2022 World Cup. At 36, MLS star Lionel Messi still pushes greatness to the limit. He’s undoubtedly the top player and game-changer in this summer’s Copa America.
