There's a lot at stake when Manchester City meet Manchester United in the derby on Sunday. And it's not just the gap between the two clubs in the Premier League table — City could go 18 points above. It's all about Rodri.
Manchester City's defensive Rodri is unbeaten in an astonishing 58 appearances for City, losing to Spurs last year on February 5, 2023. For the record, he's completed a full year undefeated. All of City's losses this season have come during Rodri's absence.
The 27-year-old Spaniard picked up a straight red card against Nottingham Forest, suspending him for three games.
But with Rodri back in the lineup, Kevin de Bruyne, and Erling Haaland's return, Manchester City are flying high again.
Can Rodri put City on his back again this season?
Should City defeat or tie the Red Devils this weekend, Rodri will break the record for the longest unbeaten streak of any Premier League player. He's currently tied at 58 with former Chelsea center-back Ricardo Carvalho, who helped Chelsea win three Premier League titles.
Given City's momentum and Manchester United's helter-skelter season, Rodri looks set to achieve a historic milestone.
