Vinicius Jr. is Real Madrid’s new number 7, thanks to several shirt number changes at the club.
“I want the #7 of Cristiano, Butragueño & Raúl,” said a convinced Vini Jr.
The new squad number is well deserved. After a rough start to Vini’s La Liga career, the 22-year-old Brazilian forward is now one of the world’s best forwards.
And with Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard, and Marco Asensio leaving the Bernabeu, it’s time for someone new and prolific to step up.
Can Vini follow in the footsteps of Cristiano and Raul?
Vinicius, who previously wore the number 20 jersey, will now aim to fill the shoes of Real Madrid icons Cristiano Ronaldo and Raul. He hopes to avoid the same misfortune that befell Eden Hazard, who previously wore the number 7 jersey.
Vinicius scored 23 goals last season and provided 21 assists in 55 appearances. During the 2021/22 season, he and Karim Benzema spearheaded Madrid’s 2021/22 Champions League and La Liga titles.
Real Madrid has also rewarded Vini’s Brazilian teammate Rodrygo with the number 11 shirt for the upcoming campaign. The 22-year-old winger has emerged as a crucial player for Los Blancos, consistently coming up clutch.
Both players combined for 19 La Liga strikes and 12 Champions League goals last season.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s first summer signing, Fran Garcia, inherits Vini’s old number 20.
The squad number of upcoming signing Jude Bellingham remains unknown. However, rumors indicate the teenager will take over Zidane’s iconic number 5. Wouldn’t that be something?
The future of Real Madrid’s success relies on these youngsters. Let’s see if they can carry on the legacy of the club’s iconic squad numbers.
