Atletico Madrid center-forward Memphis Depay shared some choice words for Kanye West after his team defeated Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday.
“Yo, Ye, you chose the wrong team to f*ck with lol. This is AtlĂ©tico de Madrid. Go go go now lets go drop a song for our stadium and come join the Puma family too! Love brother,” wrote 30-year-old Depay on social media.
Depay netted Atletico's equalizer just before 90 minutes to send the two teams to extra time and then penalties. The Dutchman, buoyed by the confidence of refound form, especially since those drowsy United days, also buried his penalty kick.
He's bagged nine so far in all competitions this season, along with two assists.
So what did Kanye West do exactly to provoke Memphis Depay's statement?
Kanye didn't offend Depay, personally. Depay's frustration starts with Ye's affiliation with Inter Milan. The 46-year-old rapper attended the San Siro for the first Round of 16 leg, in which the Nerazzuri triumphed 1-nil.
Last February, West sampled and credited Inter Milan Ultras on two of his songsâ”Star” and “Carnival”âon the Vultures Volume 1 drop with Ty Dolla $ign. Kanye's son, Saint West, is also a huge football fan.
Depay, a known rapper himself, often wows social media with provocative comments. “Lotta bark, not bite,” he tweeted after the Netherlands defeated the USMNT in the Round of 16 of the World Cup 2022.
Earlier today, Atleti drew Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarter-finals. The first leg will take place on April 9.
